Tell us about your training!
I’ve been training for almost two years. After sitting on the sidelines for a year and watching my son in the kid’s classes, I thought maybe I’d try it out if ever there were a women’s group. Suddenly, as if by magic, a women’s class was born! As a person who tries to stick to their word, I tried it out and haven’t looked back since. I slowly integrated myself into the co-ed classes and now they’ll never be rid of me 🙂
Erin's Advice
Just try it! It seems intimidating, and a little weird maybe, but just try it. Maybe you’ll love it.
What is your favorite or go-to Jiu-Jitsu moves?
Tell us something about you!
Really, I’m not that exciting. When I’m not at Eris, you will usually find me working at the hospital or studying for my BScN. I love watching my son play rugby, and we both enjoy a good Netflix marathon at home with some nachos. I try to be a runner in the free time that I have, but I’m not looking to set any speed records anytime soon.
So why Jiu-Jitsu?
I didn’t imagine that I’d enjoy it as much as I do, to be honest. One of the things that I love about BJJ is that anyone can be good at some aspect of it, no matter what their size. Some moves I doubt I will ever be able to master (looking at you, creepy inverted guard) and other styles I can really take advantage of because of my smaller (short limbed) stature. I always have a good time at our gym, it’s like another family, and I’ve made some really great friends in the process. Everyone encourages and supports one another and I think that’s my favourite thing.
What is your favourite memory? Jiu-Jitsu and/or Muggle Life
I love traveling! I don’t do nearly enough of it, but just being able to go somewhere new and see different sights always makes me happy. Since we’re talking about Muggles, going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will always be a highlight in my nerdy life.
